As much cheer as the holiday season can bring, it can also bring stress. A lot of it. Between, preparing parties, arranging your affairs, and having a large list of gifts to acquire for your loved ones, it can drain you physically, mentally, and financially. One way to seriously reduce stress during the season is to properly budget your money situation. Taking even the smallest steps can result in a huge weight being lifted off your shoulders. Here are a few tips for a stress-free holiday season:

Write Out A Budget Plan

Budget Plan

It helps to know exactly what money you’re working with, and sitting down/coming up with a budget plan will help you decide how much you have to spend on bills, food, and gifts. Once you prioritize your money, you’ll see how much excess funds you have access to. Because there’s nothing worse than an overdrawn bank account.

Minimal Saving For Maximum Results

A majority of people can easily be deterred from saving if the amount of extra income being stowed away isn’t a large amount. How do I know this? Because I’m completely guilty of having these thoughts. However, putting away even $30 a week can make a big difference in your budget. Take the couple dollars you were going to spend on that espresso, and put it in the piggy bank. It really adds up.

Space Out Your Purchases

Space Out Purchases

This may seem like a simple tip, but there is a certain appeal to getting as much shopping done as possible in a limited timeframe. Try to resist this urge and space out your shopping trips in order to maximize your money.

Cast Aside Holiday Guilt

Cast Aside Holiday Guilt

Okay, I get it. This last tip is easier said than done. But take a deep breath and a second to realize that the holiday time isn’t just about giving gifts; It’s about showing those around you how much they mean to you. And it’s completely understandable that you won’t be able to get gifts for everyone in your life. And even the ones closest to you will understand if you can’t shower them in presents.

Because water is a lot more efficient.
